Each nine-week course will introduce students to a language other than English. Students will have many opportunities to use the language as they interact with their peers and teacher.
FRENCH I (FL 5110)

One credit
In the first-year courses, students begin the sequential development of all communicative skills. They use the language for oral and written communication, interpretation of spoken and written information, and presentations to audiences of listeners and readers. In addition, culture is an integral part of meaningful language use.

SPANISH II (FL 5520)
One credit
Prerequisite: French I, German I, Spanish I
Students continue the sequential development of all communicative skills. They use the language for oral and written communication, interpretation of spoken and written information, and presentations to audiences of listeners and readers. In addition, culture is an integral part of meaningful language use.
LATIN I (FL 5310)
One credit
Students are introduced to the culture and institutions of the Romans as they begin to read, understand, and interpret Latin. In addition, they use oral skills, listening, and writing to assist them in the development of their reading skills. Students gain an appreciation of the Roman contributions to Western civilization and the Latin influence on the development of the English language.
LATIN II (FL 5320)
One credit
Prerequisite: Latin I
Students increase their ability to read, understand, and interpret Latin. They continue to use oral skills, listening, and writing to assist them in the development of their reading skills. English word derivation, Roman mythology, history, and culture are integral parts of the learning process.
*Kemps Landing Magnet School requires English, math, science, social studies, physical education, an exploratory, and a foreign language. All students entering the sixth grade take Latin. Seventh and eighth graders have the opportunity of continuing with Latin or changing to Spanish.
