Students may enroll in and receive a standard or verified credit for supervised correspondence courses in subjects not available to them through the school's schedule with prior approval of the principal. Credit shall be awarded for the successful completion of such courses when the course is equivalent to that offered in the regular school program and when the work is done under the supervision of a teacher licensed in Virginia, or a person holding a letter of eligibility issued by the Virginia Department of Education, approved by the superintendent. Verified credit, required for graduation beginning with the ninth-grade class of 2000-01, may be earned when the student has passed the SOL test, if any, associated with the correspondence course completed. The student, parent, or legal guardian will be responsible for any tuition, fees, supplies, and materials relating to the course.
Former students who were classified as seniors when leaving school may obtain credit for certain correspondence courses toward graduation. For additional information contact Lorna Roberson, Director, Office of Secondary Instructional Services, at Lorna.Roberson@vbschools.com.
