General Information
The Family and Consumer Sciences program prepares students for family life, work life, and careers in the field by providing opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed for:
- Strengthening the well-being of individuals and families across the life span
- Becoming responsible citizens and leaders in family, community, and work settings
- Promoting optimal nutrition and wellness across the life span
- Managing resources to meet the material needs of individuals and families
- Balancing personal, home, family, and work lives
- Using critical and creative thinking skills to address problems in diverse families, communities, and work environments
- Exemplifying successful life management, employment, and career development
- Functioning effectively as providers and consumers of goods and services

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
The activities stressed in the youth organizations are an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum. Students participate in FCCLA in each course to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Students have an opportunity to build career skills and to participate in regional, state, and national competitive events.
* Students enrolled in these courses may opt to participate in Cooperative Education (CO-OP).
