Students learn the basic principles, concepts, and practices of the accounting for
a sole proprietorships and partnerships. QuickBooks software is used to reinforce learning of the accounting cycle. Students complete the payroll processes, inventory control procedures, accounts receivable and payable processes.
Certification: Students will have the opportunity to sit for the Accounting national assessment. This industry credential, if passed, is eligible for student-selected verified credit.
ADVANCED ACCOUNTING (BE 6613)

Students increase technical competencies and gain a broad understanding of business activities that will be needed to maintain and interpret financial records for efficient management. Emphasis is placed on partnership and corporate accounting, inventory control, and cost accounting. QuickBooks software is used to automate payroll, inventory control, accounts receivable, and accounts payable and financial statement creation.
Certification: Students will have the opportunity to sit for the Accounting Complete national assessment. This industry credential, if passed, is eligible for student-selected verified credit.
COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS (BE 6635)

Students learn to create a variety of word processing documents, master spreadsheet functions and charting; use databases to create, sort, query, and design reports. Student use Macromedia Studio to design web sites.
ADVANCED COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS (BE 6625)

Students study advanced integrated computer applications and delve into Macromedia Studio at a deeper level to create animations and multimedia applications.
Certification: Students will have the opportunity to sit for the Microsoft Office Specialist industry certification exam. This industry certification, if passed, is eligible for student-selected verified credit.
BUSINESS LAW (BE 6132)
One-half credit, one semester, Grades 11-12
Students study the legal rights and responsibilities of adults and minors in civil and criminal actions. Emphasis is placed on laws as applied to ethics, contracts, sales, court systems, employment, and personal business transactions.
COOPERATIVE OFFICE EDUCATION (COE) COE is an option for several Business and Information Technology courses (marked with an asterisk). Students attend class part of the day and work in an approved business/office position part of the day. The teacher-coordinator and on-the-job training sponsor develop an individualized training plan that identified learning experiences according to the student's career objective. Transportation is the responsibility of the student.
DESIGN, MULTIMEDIA, AND WEB TECHNOLOGIES (BE 6630)
One-half credit, one semester

Students develop proficiency in creating desktop published documents. Students will incorporate journalistic principles in design and layout of publications. Students develop web sites and multimedia presentations.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FUNDAMENTALS (BE 6670)
One credit, one year. Grades 9-12
IT Fundamentals focuses on introducing skills related to Information Technology basics. Internet fundamentals, network systems, computer, maintenance/upgrading/ troubleshooting, computer applications, programming, graphics, web page design, and interactive media. Students will explore ethical issues related to computers and Internet technology, develop teamwork and communication skills.
Certification: Students will have the opportunity to sit for the Internet Core Computing Concepts (IC3) industry certification exams. These industry exams, if passed, are eligible for student-selected verified credit
KEYBOARDING (BE 6151)
One-half credit, one semester. Grades 9-12
Students acquire skills in developing touch keyboarding techniques and become proficient computer users. The course includes word processing applications. Review of standard grammar usage and development of proofreading and editing techniques enable students to compose, organize, and edit documents at the keyboard.
KEYBOARD1NG APPLICATIONS (BE 6152)
One-half credit, one semester, Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Keyboarding or successful passage of Keyboarding Challenge Test administered by Business Department Chairman
Students elevate skill levels on the keyboard, increasing both speed and accuracy- Students produce a variety of advanced personal and business documents. Emphasis is placed on formatting of documents, including research papers, letters, tables, and technical reports.
Certification: Students will have the opportunity to sit for the Microsoft Office Specialist industry certification exam. This industry exam, if passed, is eligible for student-selected verified credit.
THE FIRM (BE6650)

The Firm is a computer applications and management training program providing training on state-of-the-art equipment in an actual office environment. The teachers are the employers and the students are the employees. Time management, Total Quality Management, word processing applications, data processing applications, and English communications skills are taught and applied.
NOTE: Currently offered at Green Run High School and Landstown High Schools

VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE (BE 6136)
One credit, one year, Grades 11-12
VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE COE (BE 6137) *
Two credits, one year, Grades 11-12
Using the Virtual Enterprise model, students will set up and operate a business that will put learned management skills into practice, including examining the environments that affect businesses and models of organization. Management skills and techniques are learned and practiced. The student-run firms will conduct business with other virtual enterprise firms throughout the world. In addition to operating in a business-to-business environment, students will learn personal financial management skills through the operation of a virtual bank.
